I am trying to create a record of my attempt to build Android 2.2 for the Nook Simple Touch.

Off Topic: Back From The Dead
Well, sorry I disappeared for a while. I have not given up on the project. My PC started rebooting at random. Re-seating the graphics card did not fix it... The Reader's Digest version is that after many hours of troubleshooting, I discovered a short in the CPU case which has now been replaced. Onward and upward!

Good to see you are working on it Randy! Do you think there would be any chance to get Android 4 run on NST? It can be run on Raspberry Pi! :)
ReplyDeleteGood to see this post. hope u guys can keep it on :P
ReplyDeleteNothing above 2.3.7_r1 can be run on the NST. There's no public 3.x Android source code, and 4.x+ requires a minimum of 230MB kernel + userspace.
ReplyDeleteI've just recently started looking at what it might take to get 2.3.7_r1 running, and in fact, was just getting ready to diff the 2.6.29 NST kernel sources against a vanilla build. Sounds like from a previous post that B&N used a non-vanilla version as their base.
Realistically, it shouldn't be too difficult to get 2.6.35 running. I'm more concerned about not having or being able to find the necessary Android files for the NST. On that account, I'm still learning.
Rather, 340MB. Fingers were on the wrong keys :)
DeleteI plan to try Android 2.2 for two main reasons. First I use a 32 bit windows machine, and Google officially supports 32-bit builds for that version. Second, I understand that B&N used 2.1 as their base. I am hypothesizing that it will be relatively simple to use their drivers for 2.1 with 2.2. I may be proven wrong, LOL...
